Innovate UK – Innovation Loans

Innovate UK is the UK’s national innovation agency which supports business-led innovation in all sectors, technologies and UK regions, including funds to bring new ideas to life.

What are innovation loans?

Innovate UK provides loans to businesses developing
projects that will create innovative new products,
processes or services.

Loans range from £100,000 to £2,000,000.

Eligibility and exclusions

Small to medium sized enterprises that are based
in the UK and are in the later stages of research
and development projects are eligible for Innovation
Loans.

Eligible companies can receive an innovation loan for up to 100% of your eligible project costs.

Benefits and scenarios

One of the benefits of Innovate UK is that it is designed
to help businesses overcome funding gaps by providing
access to affordable loans that support turning new
products or ideas into a business.

Risks

Like most loans, you’ll need to keep up with repayments
for Innovation Loans.

Things you can use to
secure the finance

To get a loan from Innovate UK, you may have to pledge
some of your business’ assets in support of the borrowing
to the lender.  This is provided by a limited company
granting a Debenture; (a fixed and floating charge over its
general assets) in favour of the lender.

This means if your company can't repay the loan, the lender
may have the right to take and sell those assets to get their
money back.
